Making a big move can be frightening. Having a support network is the easiest way to get over your fears, but in order to build one, you need to trust people with your plans. If you’re afraid of what people might say, or the judgments they might make about your ambitions, you’ll never let them in and you’ll never ask for help.
Remember that “self-made people” are rarely ever self-made. It may have been their ambition that provided the motivation to climb, but it was the support and advice of friends, mentors, colleagues, and partners that provided the staircase.
Successful people know when to ask for help. There’s no shame in it, and it’s not a sign of weakness. Mentors and mentees help each other. It’s not a one-sided relationship. When you’ve lost your way and you need a boost, ask for it.
