You asked for feedback, not a compliment

Section 4 : Punish honesty and people will stop being honest

100%

This part is simple: if you get defensive, passive-aggressive, or cold every time someone gives you honest feedback, they will stop giving it. Not because they don’t have anything to say, but because it’s not worth the fallout.

You don’t have to agree with everything. But if your goal is growth, especially as a leader, or teammate, then you need people who trust that they can speak up without being punished for it.

Being someone who can receive honest feedback without making it personal is one of the most underrated traits in life. It makes you easier to work with, easier to help and easier to trust. It says: I’m here to improve, not just to be right.
