Make sure when you set up a meeting with your mentor that you take into consideration their schedule. Allow them to set the place and time. Feel free to make suggestions, but remember that ultimately it should be up to them.
Before you meet with your mentor, figure out what you want to get out of the relationship. Set up roles and responsibilities for you and your mentor and discuss it with them. If you’re interviewing for a job in their field, ask them for help and guidance with achieving that goal. Your mentor is there to guide and help you, not directly hire you. Don’t ask them for a job, rather learn from their experience and apply what you learn.
