SMDP applicants are post-baccalaureate, graduate or Ph.D. students and Post-Doctoral researchers from racial and ethnic groups (Hispanic Americans, Pacific Islanders, African Americans and Native Americans), underrepresented in the medical technology, biotechnology and consumer healthcare workforce.
Applicants must be eligible to work permanently in the United States without needing a visa or sponsorship.
The SMDP will be providing opportunities for students to expand their professional networks and build relationships with their peers and executives in the biotechnology, medical technology and/or consumer healthcare industries.
For (SMDP MedTech) scholar/ mentor teams will be provided the opportunity to attend the BIO International Convention.
For (SMDP Biotech) scholar/mentor teams will be provided the opportunity to attend the Medtech Conference.
Formal presentations will be given by the Biotech and MedTech industry leaders.
During the 5day training session, students will be paired with industry leaders for an ongoing one-year mentoring experience.

We are still promoting the 2021 SMDP Call for Applicants. On the 22nd of February, an exciting informational meeting was held for California State University, Channel Islands (Phil Hampton, Lydia Dixon, Nitika Parmar and Dean Vandana Kohli).
On the 8th of January, the SMDP team held informational meetings for the University of Winsconsin- Stout ( Dr. Degruson, the assistant Professor, Packaging, department of Engineering and Technology) and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The SMDP team held informational meetings with Professor Smith, Programs Director at Virginia Tech; the Vice President for Industry Relations (Dr. Guiseppi- Elie), the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion (Dr. Noble), the Associate Vice President for Student Development (Robyn Sanderson) and the Assistant Vice President of Industry Relations (Lynda Harrison) from Anderson University.
The SMDP team held an informational meeting for the University of California, Berkeley students on the 2nd of February. Another exciting meeting was held for St Mary`s University (Tianna Dokes, Assistant Director of Employer Relations STRIVE Career Center) on the 3rd of February.
On the 1st of February, the SMDP team held exciting informational meetings with Dr. Kendrick, the assistant director for Graduate Student Development at Duke University; Brittain Sobey, the Advising Coordinator at University of Texas, Arlington and Dr. Cameron from Queens College, City University of New York.
The SMDP team is still promoting the 2O21 Call for Applicants, on the 27th of January Dustielyn Savage and the team held student informational meetings for Texas A&M University (Jake Clough, Academic Advisor for Biomedical Engineering); University of Georgia Athens College of Engineering (Laurin Anglin, Associate Director for Outreach and Engagement; Amber Juncker, Associate Director for Outreach and Engagement); Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico (Angie Escalante- Santana, Career and Internship Services Director) and the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus (Arthur Tinoco and Lauren Fernandez).
Still promoting the 2021 SMDP Call for Applicants, on the 25th of January, the SMDP team held informational meetings for Rochester Institute of Technology (Diedra Livingston, Assistant Director of Diversity Initiatives, Career Services and Cooperative Education); St Edward`s University (Jason de la Rosa, Director of Career and Professional Development) and the University of Houston (Janice Quiroz Perez, Director of Engineering Career Services Center).
On the 26th of January, the SMDP team had informational meetings for Saint Peter`s University (Jessica Kennedy, STEM Career Coach) and the University of Chicago (Scott Summers).
