Daniella Espinoza, MAT is a Medical Writing Scientist, and she is responsible for preparation and delivery of high-quality clinical documents with scientific and strategic input to support the development, regulatory approval, and maintenance of healthcare products within the Oncology Therapeutic Area.
I hold a MAT focusing on secondary science from the Relay Graduate School of Education. After transitioning from my career in education, I pursued further studies to earn my MS in Biotechnology from RUSH University. Throughout this period, I served as a clinical research assistant for an Allergy and Immunology study and also worked as a Research Educator assisting basic and preclinical scientists. My education and diverse experiences have played a crucial role in shaping my career path.
I currently work at Johnson & Johnson. Patients inform and inspire our science-based innovations, which continue to change and save lives. Applying rigorous science and compassion, we address some of the most complex diseases of our time and unlock the potential medicines of tomorrow. Our diverse portfolio spans multiple therapeutic areas, including Oncology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary Hypertension, Retinal, and Medical Affairs. We are continuously working to develop treatments, aspiring to find cures, pioneering the path from lab to life, and championing patients every step of the way.
I first learned about Johnson & Johnson when they were associated with consumer health products. However, it was through my SMDP mentor that I learned about the Pharma and MedTech sectors within the company. My SMDP mentor exposed me to all the possibilities J&J has to offer.
Patients are at the forefront of our company. Johnson & Johnson is committed to improving the safety and efficacy of medicines and therapies for patients and advancing the science of medicine. The company values caring, collaboration, and courage and aims to change health for humanity.
Although I am at the beginning of my career as a medical writer, I have found that my soft skills, such as effective communication, critical thinking, problem solving, adaptability, and emotional intelligence, have played a significant role in my success. I chose this role as a Medical Writing Scientist to enhance my technical skills and begin a career in medical writing.
Success is achieving your goals, overcoming the challenges you face along the way. You are fulfilled by the work you do and can support others in their journey.
I am filled by the meaningful, innovative work that I know will have a positive impact on patients' lives. Addionally, I enjoy collaborating with talented, dedicated, and diverse team of individuals who are actively contributing to the advancement of science and medicine.
Set goals and timelines for yourself but understand you can always pivot. It is okay if your path is nontraditional. Take advantage of opportunities and your network. Do not be afraid to push yourself outside your comfort zone. Do your research on the company and position you are seeking. Practice your pitch.
