Storytelling

Section 4 : Inspiring your story

100%

Who doesn’t love a good story? We all do! Stories are important in the workplace. They can help you connect with people or simply communicate ideas to people.  Stories can also be used to increase credibility with their people. Listen to the stories of your leaders and your peers. How are the components in their stories organized?

Great leaders don’t always tell stories according to their own perspective and great storytellers listen and gauge what their audience wants to hear. Storytelling is a performance! Be lively and connect with your audience. Use pauses to emphasize the key point of your story. Remember to breath!

What type of story will you tell? Use any of these hints to inspire your story:

  • A story about me – tell about yourself and your personal journey, this could be something interesting about your childhood or a time when you learned something about yourself
  • A story about us – talk about why your organization or team is unique
  • A story about an idea – explore the ideas that drive you and your work
  • A story about results – how your work is making an impact in the world; something you’ve done that you are proud of; a time you overcame a major setback
