How to build habits that stick

Section 3 : Focus on progress, not perfection

100%

No habit journey is perfect and expecting flawless execution can set you up for disappointment. Instead, focus on progress. Missed a day at the gym? That doesn’t mean your entire week is ruined. What matters most is getting back on track the next day.

Working on developing a habit of regular feedback sessions with your team? It’s okay if you didn’t hold one this week because you ran late; you can plan for it better next week. What matters is that you’re making an effort to create a culture of open communication. Adopting a flexible mindset reduces the pressure to be perfect and keeps you motivated over the long haul.

One way to track your progress is by keeping a habit journal or using a habit-tracking app. Documenting your wins, even the small ones, can be incredibly motivating. It also helps you see how far you’ve come and where you can improve. If a habit isn’t sticking, reflect on why and consider adjusting your approach. Maybe your goal was too ambitious, or the timing didn’t work for your schedule. Building habits that last is about learning, adapting and celebrating each step forward.
