Some people are in seasons where they just want calm. They want to be good at their job, earn a fair salary and still have energy left for their life outside of work. There is nothing wrong with that.
The only problem is that staying still can feel like failure in systems that only reward motion. In such environments, if you are not moving fast enough or aiming high enough, you may find yourself pretending to want things you don’t want. You will start nodding along, put on the ambition mask and soon enough, you will start wondering why you feel out of place.
There is no shame in choosing a path that lets you live well and gives you room to breathe. It’s still growth, just not the kind that people are used to. If you want to stay in your role, name that clearly. Let them know you are still committed, still growing, still adding value. People will stop guessing or pushing if you make your priorities known. You don’t owe anyone a dramatic reason. Just honesty and the consistency to keep doing your work well.
