Mentors provide that outside perspective. They can call you out when you start falling back into old patterns. They’re a sounding board for a deeper exploration of what you want from your life. They can see things that you don’t understand or are afraid to examine. They’re there to listen, counsel, and guide you toward your best self. All that’s required of you is a willingness to be open and honest and a desire for constant improvement.
You’re like the athlete. Being your best self is your sport, and your mentor is your coach. Put your trust in them (mentors, be sure to earn it), and you can do great things together.
