This idea may seem alien to those that think mentorships are primarily about job interviews and career advancement, but in truth, personal development underlies every other consideration.

Do you want to do well in an interview? You can and should practice interview questions and learn what’s expected of you. But more foundationally, you’ll want to become an honest, forthright person that isn’t afraid to engage with others and claim what you want from life.

Are you hoping for a promotion? Instead of dwelling on advancement, simply be the most dedicated, passionate, and ambitious employee you’re capable of being every day, and the accolades will come.

When you’re the best version of yourself, you’re performing at your highest level. You’re demonstrating admirable qualities and living into your potential. You let go of fear and negative self-talk and let your natural ambitions guide your path. You’ll learn what you’re capable of and discover methods for actualizing it. Your confidence will grow until you realize that there’s nothing you can’t accomplish if you set your purpose.

Professional growth, skill development, and career advancement all proceed naturally from a person working to their best self, so that should be your ultimate goal.
