How to position yourself for opportunities

Section 5 : Build bridges, not ladders

100%

Networking often feels transactional, but it doesn’t have to be. Instead of focusing on “climbing the ladder,” think about building genuine relationships across disciplines. Be curious about others’ work and find ways to offer help or collaborate with no strings attached. Opportunities often arise from these moments of connection.

Let’s say you’re a regulatory affairs professional who actively seeks to understand the challenges faced by clinical teams, such as navigating complex trial protocols or addressing compliance hurdles. Offering insights or collaborative solutions tailored to their needs not only helps solve immediate issues, but also builds trust and rapport. Over time, these bridges can lead to opportunities for joint initiatives, innovative projects, or expanded roles that you might not have anticipated.
