Mastering the art of negotiation

Section 3 : Managing emotions and staying calm

75%

Negotiations can sometimes become tense, especially when stakes are high or when disagreements arise. Staying calm and composed is important here. When emotions flare, it’s easy to react defensively or aggressively, which can derail the conversation. Instead, take a breath, pause and remind yourself of the bigger picture.

If you feel frustration rising, consider taking a short break to regain composure. Calmness helps you think clearly and respond thoughtfully, keeping the discussion productive. Staying composed sets a tone of professionalism and respect, which encourages the other party to do the same. Remember, negotiation is not a battle but a dialogue aimed at finding a mutually acceptable solution.
