Mastering the art of negotiation

Section 1 : Preparing for negotiation

25%

Before entering any discussion, take the time to understand your goals and priorities. Ask yourself what you need, what you're willing to compromise on and where you can remain flexible. Equally important is understanding the other party's perspective. What might they want or need? Anticipating these factors helps you approach the conversation with confidence, an open mind and empathy.

Consider writing down key points or practising your arguments beforehand. The more prepared you are, the more likely you'll be to remain calm and focused. Effective preparation also includes planning for potential objections or challenges. When you anticipate these roadblocks, you're better prepared to address them without getting flustered. Remember, preparation doesn't mean being rigid; it means knowing your position well enough to adapt when needed.
