Are you the problem?

Section 4 : You do not have to be the smartest one in the room

80%

Sometimes being “the problem” comes from always needing to be right. Or at least, always needing to be the one who knows the answer. It can come from good places - a love of learning, a desire to contribute, a sense of duty - but it can still make collaboration harder.

If you find yourself correcting people constantly, finishing their sentences, or steering every conversation back to your own insight, it might be worth asking: why do I need to be seen as the most competent one here? And what impact is that having on others?

People need space to share ideas without being overshadowed. To think out loud without being corrected mid-thought. You might not even realize you are doing it. But if people go quiet when you speak, or wait for you to approve something before moving, you may be holding too much influence. And the goal is not just to be right. It is to create a space where other people feel like they belong too.
